About us
Started by SUNCybernetics and the Engineering Faculty of the North West University (NWU) in 2012, the Solar Training Centre (STC) was the first of its kind in South Africa. Since then STC has already trained and/or provided technical support to more than 1000 people in terms of solar PV, consisting of engineers, electricians, technicians, project developers, investors, entrepreneurs and various municipal and/or Eskom officials.
What started out as a 1-day introduction course to Photovoltaics in 2012, has expanded to a 3-day course in 2015 and even further expanded to an intensive 5-day solar PV installer course, which is aligned with both SAPVIA’s PV GreenCard® (Since 2018) and AREP’s P4 online test (Since 2020).
In 2016 with the financial support from GIZ and SALGA, and the collaboration from key experts and entities, STC were able to launch the first training on Small Scale Embedded Generation (SSEG; like grid tied Solar PV) for Municipalities. Up to mid-2020, more than 300 Municipal, Eskom, governmental officials and other stakeholders were trained, equipped, empowered and technically supported to be able to manage and process SSEG system on their electrical grid.
STC’s expert trainers with years of experience of solar PV also provides independent solar PV related technical services and consulting, like design, performance audits, technical reporting and O&M.Started by SUNCybernetics and the Engineering Faculty of the North West University (NWU) in 2012, the Solar Training Centre (STC) was the first of its kind in South Africa.
